A talk by Stephen Carey
The city was heavily bombed by the Luftwaffe, in a series of 59 raids known as the Plymouth Blitz and much of the city centre and over 3,700 houses were completely destroyed. The redevelopment of the city was planned by Sir Patrick Abercrombie and he took the opportunity to lay out a whole hierarchy of settlements across the city of communities, neighbourhoods and districts. The centre was designed in a modernist style. Stephen will continue this 2024 topic with this second presentation.
