Following a recce, a few points. If you read this and know of walkers in the group who do not access emails, please pass on this information to them.
There is a climb of some 300 feet onto Bowden Hill.
Near the start of the walk, we have to follow a relatively busy road with no pavement for 700 yards from the River Avon at Lacock out to the Bell Inn by Bewley Common.
There are quite a few stiles on the walk, several of which cannot be avoided by using an adjoining gateway.
The NT car-park costs £4 but is free if you are a member. If you are not in the NT but have a bus pass, there is a half-hourly bus service from Trowbridge to Melksham and Chippenham that passes through Lacock, stopping at the George Inn. From there it is a 5 minute walk to the NT car-park where the walks begins.
Do not let this put you off! It is an excellent walk with great views across much of North and West Wiltshire.
