Archaeology Group

U3A Archaeology Group.

Joy is retiring as leader of the Archaeology group at the end of this year and so far no-one has come forward to take over from her. The members do not want the group to disband and a meeting is being held on Wednesday August 14 at 2-30pm to which anyone who is interested in keeping the group going is invited. We hope there is someone among our 700 members willing to lead this group aided by a small band of folk who want to see the group continue but do not have Joy’s knowledge or experience.

Anyone interested in coming please contact Groups Co-ordinator.

Possible New Groups

The following ideas have been suggested for setting up new groups:-
LINE DANCING
This will require instructions so if anyone has experience in this form of dancing could they please let me know. Alternatively, initially it could be learnt from videos. This group would need a venue.
GOLF
This would require some experience of playing. I have investigated how this could be set up and organised.
ITALIAN
Some knowledge would be required and would be suitable for a home group. Ideas on how to organise a language group could be obtained from other WWU3A language groups.

If you are interested in any of these suggestions please contact Groups Co-ordinator or see your latest newsmail.

Age UK Wiltshire – Can you help?

Help promote the Big Knit

We need help to promote the Big Knit across Wiltshire to get people knitting and crocheting the little hats so we can reach our target of 50,000 little hats by the end of July. We’ve already sent 25,000 off and have another 3, 000 in Devizes waiting to go but we still need more.

We’re looking for about 20 people in different areas of Wiltshire who could put up posters, engage with knitting/craft groups, visit WIs, share on social media or do anything else to make this happen. We can provide all the publicity materials and patterns required and what we’d ask is if each person could aim to get 1,000 little hats for us.

For every hat we provide, we get 25p so if we reach our target that will be £12,500 which will go directly to supporting older people in Wiltshire & Swindon.

If you’re up for the challenge, please do let me know! Thank you!
